Internet Explorer Still a Failure

Internet Explorer doesn’t even try to follow web standards. Its as if the IE team wants to be a group of rebels– or black sheep if you will. As a web developer I am constantly inconvenienced by some error in the display of the site. I have to use hacks to get things to work right sometimes– and I HATE hacks! All of the major browsers out there right now score very high in the ACID3 test. Your 100% in ACID2 should have happened in 7! It scores fairly poor in CSS3 tests as well. Yes, CSS3 isn’t official yet, but much of it has already been implemented in leading browsers.

If an effort is not made to improve the standards compliance of your browsers, I feel you will continue to lose market share. I personally feel that because the browser is bundled with Windows the developers don’t feel the need to stay with the group. This sort of behavior is not acceptable!

That being said, IE8 is definitely an improvement, and the Firebug clone is great (although I still prefer firebug). It makes my standards compliant markup easier to fit to your… wishes. All in all, the browser is good, the rendering is lackluster still. Don’t be a rebel– contribute and prosper! …Sorry for the rant guys, but this bugs me every damn day!

Infected Mushroom: Vicious Delicious Desktop Background

This is the first new background I have created in quite a while. As you might imagine I’m a big fan of dark themes. Easy on the eyes, which as a programmer you learn to appreciate.

I was bored one day and researching a band called Infected Mushroom’s newest album when I came across their user-created desktop wallpapers. Some of them were good, although nothing really caught my attention. The cool thing here is they have hi-resolution images of some of their cover art and logo. I decided to create a background using those. I think it turned out very well. I can’t really credit myself for any of this, the only thing I did was composite the stuff together.

Anyways, enjoy!  If you like it, comment!  If you don’t… Comment anyways, I want to hear your opinions! And check out their web site: http://www.infected-mushroom.com/.

Design or Develop?

Quite often do I ask myself whether I prefer to develop web sites or design them.  Every time I come to the same conclusion.  My code is much more beautiful than my art.  Or rather, my art is my code.  That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy designing web sites either, but I get much more satisfaction out of crafting a feature line-by-line.  Its amazing to see something you’ve simply written come to life and do what you tell it to.  I kind of makes me feel… Powerful!

So to get that question out of the way for good, I consider myself to be a stellar programmer, and enjoy it much more than I do design.  I mean, designing is great, but I don’t think I’m as creative or good at it than I am coding.  To take a page out of WordPress’ book: Code is poetry!

Sounds rather odd at first, but somebody might find it useful.  When doing updates on my NAS, I found that one of my partitions did not have sufficient free space to complete the update.  I then remembered that I set aside a few gigabytes of space from my storage disks (I like to install one one disk and dedicate a full set of disks to storage).  I will outline the general procedure here.

I’m going to put things in there I swear! Lack of time due to the final weeks of school and an unappreciative job leaves little time for trivial things.
